Research oppourtunites during the semester are available through on-campus programs listed below.

                            UNM Harvard NSF PREM - Partnership for REsearch and Education in Materials.

                            ABOUT:

                            This 5-year, $2.5 million effort is intended to increase the participation of minorities and females in materials science-related careers, and stimulate interest in science and technology.

                            UNM's PREM-affiliated students and faculty conduct collaborative research with researchers at the NSF-funded Harvard University MRSEC.

                            Important features of these collaborations are the opportunities for PREM participants to work at Harvard for periods of weeks or months.

                            ABOUT:

                            The program is funded at UNM through In Initiative to Maximize Student Diversity Grant from NIH National Institute of General Medical Sciences.

                            This grant encourages researchers at institutions to initiate and/or expand Innovative programs to increase minority participation in research.

                            This grant facilitates researchres progress toward careers in biomedical research in any phase of their career development, from the undergraduate level through the Ph.D.

                            Minority Access to Reserach Careers - MARC

                            ABOUT:

                            The University of New Mexico’s Minority Access to Research Careers (MARC) Program offers research training and support to prepare our scholars for graduate school.

                            Our goals are to increase the number and competitiveness of underrepresented minorities engaged in biomedical research by increasing the research training opportunities for our scholars.

                            MARC supports talented UNM undergraduates with training that directly prepares scholars for careers in biomedical research.

                            The fields of research could be biology, chemistry, cell and molecular biology, genetics, biophysics, mathematics, pharmacology, biochemistry, bioengineering or computer science.

                            Only five new scholars are admitted to this Honors undergraduate research program each year, which enables us to create a small supportive community of undergraduate scholars.

                            Undergraduate Oppourtunites - UnO

                            ABOUT:

                            The goal of the Undergraduate Opportunities (UnO) program is to recruit and prepare undergraduate students for graduate study and research careers.

                            All students will have introductory training and then experience concentrated research in their junior and senior years.

                            Ronald E. McNair - McNair

                            ABOUT:

                            A primary focus of this program is to prepare students for graduate studies.

                            Students will have the opportunity to work with their advisors/faculty mentors who will help them achieve their academic goals and acquire skills to conduct high quality scholarly research.

                            Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation LSAMP

                            ABOUT:

                            The Undergraduate Research Assistantship (URA) program provides the opportunity for students to work with faculty mentors in their disciplines to do hands-on research.

                            As students have the opportunity to see the benefits and challenges of the work they do and to recognize the value of continuing their education to be "like" their mentors.

                            Research Education    Rise Research Initiative for Scientific Enhancement
    Bridges to Baccalaureate Program

                            ABOUT:

                            RISE is a student development program for minority-serving institutions.

                            The goal of the program is to increase the number of students from groups underrepresented in biomedical and behavioral research who complete Ph.D. degree programs in these fields.

                            ABOUT:

                            The Bridges to the Baccalaureate Program provides support to institutions to help students make transitions at a critical stage in their development as scientists.

                            The program is aimed at helping students make the transition from 2-year junior or community colleges to full 4-year baccalaureate programs.

                            BBP targets students from groups underrepresented in the biomedical and behavioral research enterprise of the nation and/or populations disproportionately affected by health disparities.

                            ABOUT:

                            EXROP links the HHMI's Science and Grants Programs to provide undergrad students with summer research experiences that encourage them to persue careers in academic science.

                             Undergraduate Pipeline Network at UNM Health Sciences Center - Biomedical Research Education Programs

                            ABOUT:

                            This summer research experience will work to cultivate students' interest in research while helping them attain skills needed to apply for and succeed in post-baccalaureate education.

                            The program provides the opportunity for students to choose from three types of research – basic science/laboratory, clinical/translational, and community-based.
