Guest Lecture - Gabriel Montano

Regina Rendon

We began this discussion by talking about what nanotechnology means and how our understandings have been influenced by the media. Gabriel stressed the importance of why we should study biology at the nano level. We discussed how operations occur differently at the nano scale than at the bulk scale. He discussed what goes on in his lab and how 3d technology has influenced nanotechnology. We learned a lot about atomic force microscopy.

Questions

  1. What makes jumping length scales so difficult?
  2. How can we use visualization to enhance things at the nano level?
  3. What is your "artificial leaf"?

Future Directions:

  1. Begin to think of other studies from a "nano" level.
  2. Design my "artificial leaf".
  3. Alter my limitations and see how that affects my creativity.
